Host City - Canberra

Canberra is not only the home of ANU, it's home to world champion baristas, easy access to walks in natural landscapes, and over 50 museums and galleries. September also sees the opening of Floriade, Australia's biggest celebration of spring. This free event runs from 14 September to 13 October, with over 1 million flowers on display through the period.

Travelling to Canberra

There are four main options for travelling to this conference: driving, flying, rail, bus.

Flying

The Canberra International Airport receives direct flights from a majority of main hubs across Australia. The conference venue is located in the centre of Canberra on the ANU campus, adjacent to the city centre. The venue is a 15 minute (8 kilometre) drive from the airport. Transport Canberra runs ACTION Bus route 3 between the airport terminal through to the City interchange. ANU is a 10 minute walk from the CBD (known as Civic). The cost for a taxi or Uber from the airport is about $30 - $35 to get to a Civic hotel or to the ANU campus.

Driving

Canberra is an easy 3 hour drive from Sydney. Bus/coach servies operate to and from Canberra between Sydney, Melbourne, etc. See Murrays Coaches or Greyhound Australia for routes, prices and timetables.

Delegates who intend to drive their personal vehicles to the conference are eligible to park in voucher (coins and EFTPOS) parking areas at the southern end of North Road. However parking space is extremely limited and delegates are encouraged to carpool or use taxis or Uber in travelling to the ANU campus. For more information about parking and a map of the campus, click here

Rail

Canberra is connected directly to Sydney via a rail service departing from Sydney Central Station. The daily service travles to Canberra via the Southern Highlands, Goulburn and Bungendore. Terminating at the Canberra Railway Station in Kingston (15 minute drive to ANU). Forget the train from Sydney unless you like living in the slow lane - the trip takes a leisurely 4 1/2 hours. Check timetables and book online through the NSW Trainlink website.

Public Transport

The conference venue is situated a short walk (1 kilometre) from the Canberra City Bus Interchange and the Alinga St Light Rail Station. The bus interchange is serviced by numerous Action Bus routes. For routes and timetables, please see the Transport Canberra website.
