University Ombuds, Complaint Managers & Student Advocates Conference 2019

The Australasian Universities Deans of Students, Ombuds, Complaints Managers and Student Advocates Conference 2019 is a great opportunity for you to meet with your colleagues in the fields of grievance resolution, management, student support and advocacy and to share good practice.

Registration has now closed but please email dean.students@anu.edu.au if you wish to be added to the waitlist. You need to provide your name, university and role. Include ANU2019 in the header of your email.

Conference Theme

The conference theme builds upon discussions and presentations delivered at recent conferences of our community, particularly over the last three years. The aim this time is to explore what approaches tertiary institutions are undertaking proactively to minimise sources of grievance and to address complaints at the earliest possible stage. To this end, the conference theme covers:

  • Proactive approaches to the encouragement of courteous and respectful relationships between students and between staff and students in situations that often lead to grievances.
  • Proactive approaches to addressing sources of grievance.

Topics include:

  • Challenging behaviour, unreasonable complainants and complex cases
  • Issues faced by international students
  • Educating men
  • Being an active bystander
  • Restorative practices
  • Informal and formal grievance resolution practices
  • Staff wellbeing and self-care

Proposals for Presentations (Proposal Deadline: 20 May 2019)

We invite proposals for 30 minute interactive presentations. Your proposals should be emailed to dean.students@anu.edu.au and include:

Category: case study, practice-oriented or policy oriented
Abstract: core idea and objective of your proposal (250 words maximum)
Email Subject Header: include ANU2019 in the subject header of your email
